Google Is Charging Advertisers for Fake YouTube Views

A research study based out of a Ottawa claims that YouTube has been charging advertisers for YouTube views even when it thinks that the ads were viewed by a robot rather than an actual human.

The research group based out of Ottawa is behind this study. They did an experiment in which they uploaded a video to YouTube and then bought YouTube advertisement targeting those videos. They also went online and bought YouTube views from views providers for the video.

While the YouTube bots viewed two of the videos over 500 times, YouTube’s view counter only listed 100 of the views after finding out that a majority were fake.

When they checked there Google’s AdWords advertising platform charged for 500 Youtube views.

Google went on to say that they take fake traffic very seriously and have invested a significant amount of money to track this kind of online blackhat views method. They also went on to say that most of the invalid YouTube views traffic are filtered from their systems before advertisers are ever charged.

They claim that while YouTube puts the effort to combat fake youtube views going to videos a substantial number of fake views get passed there system.

It adds that while YouTube’s system for detecting fake views significantly outperforms others, it may still be susceptible to simple attacks.

Sometimes YouTube will penalize it’s users for buying fake youtube views to their videos. The problem with that is another factor comes into play. People have started buying fake youtube views to their competitors in the hopes of getting that video banned.

YouTube has stopped banning videos recently because of to many complaints from users all over the world asking WHY there videos got banned in the first place. For now, if YouTube suspects that your views are fake they remove SOME of the views, not all.
